RASC St. John's Centre Monthly Meeting
November 15, 2006

Location: Chemistry/Physics Building, MUN

Time: 8:00 pm

Present: 22

Introductions

Observations

Constitution

Garry noted that this is a special meeting, constituted from last month.

Motion to adopt the new, adapted by-laws, as posted on the web previous to this meeting:

It was noted that some minor grammatical corrections have been made, and Mike Crawford will make a few more and post the results. The Secretary will then send the by-laws to National for their consideration.

Sky Next Month

Robert passed around a sheet of observing lists. There were planets, meteor showers, comets, and deep sky objects ("treats") discussed. We may have an observing session at the Park for the Leonids. Robert will email us just before the outing. He is looking for feedback on when is best to have outings, and how and when is best to notify people, considering our weather often leaves you dangling at the last minute.

Next Meeting

Phil McCausland will be in town and is willing to give a talk on meteorites and his research at the University of Waterloo. This will be on December 20, the normal third Wednesday (normally we try to avoid Christmas and so have our meeting earlier that month). This meeting will also be our Christmas Party for the year.

Workshops

Gary Case wants to check on interest in having workshops. How often should they be, say once a month? What topics would people like covered?

Video

A NOVA episode on supermassive black holes was shown.
